Howdy Y'all

This week has been good. Pretty uneventful. Elder Evensen has spent half the week sick, so I've caught up on a little sleep. It's been nice. But, at the same time, not nice because I feel like barely anything has been accomplished.

I did have one good story. A few weeks ago, I mentioned my plan to get Torris, the retired judge, to read the Book of Mormon. After that we didn't have a lesson for another 2 or 3 weeks. When we finally did have a lesson he did read the 3 chapters we left with him. Instead of the usual questions about church history that he had before, he asked about the Atonement! It was awesome! He had no idea what it was or meant.

After 4 months of teaching him off and on, he had a question that we loved to answer. Our next lesson with him, last Tuesday, he had read all of the First Book of Nephi, 22 Chapters, in the one week. And we have a lesson with him tonight that he's planning on having Second Nephi read. Now that we finally got him to start, he doesn't want to stop. It's so awesome, and really strengthened my testimony on the Book of Mormon.

I look back on the times that my family read it together. When my Dad, Mom, and sisters all took turns reading and talking about the Book of Mormon. I love having those memories. And it has helped me to push it on everyone I can, like Torris.  I can see how he's enjoyed it. I encourage all, Mormon and those of other faiths, to read it (as a family if possible) and pray about it.

Keep in touch

Hey

This has been a great week. We contacted a Hispanic guy in a street. He spoke nothing but Spanish to us. We stood there for a couple minutes trying to get our point across until he started speaking in perfect English! He was a member and basically wanted to see how long we'd keep trying. It was pretty funny.

We had Zone Conference this week. We got some sweet new phones. pic included.

Elder Pearson new cell phone

I love showing it to everyone up here who has returned from missions and barely got cell phones to begin with.

We also had Alex Boye as a guest speaker/singer. He's a professional singer with a couple CD's and in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was really motivational.

He read a great scripture, Proverbs 23:7 which says, "..As he thinketh in his heart, so is he" The things we think about and focus on become our goals and what we become.

We had a sweet lesson. Well most are. But it was the first lesson with someone new, Marlen. Usually the first lesson is the restoration of the gospel, so that's what we taught. When we first started, Marlen's brother in the room right next to us was watching some Jerry Springer type show and had it on pretty loud. It's kinda hard to have the spirit when the tv's on and it's people chasing each other around on a stage and having 2/3 of the things they say beeped out. It was rainy outside and I remember thinking that'd it'd be great if the power went out. As we finished teaching the things that most people have in common with us (God is our loving Heavenly Father, families are blessed by the gospel, prophets in the Bible, and Christ's earthly ministry and death) something happened. The power went out! It was light enough from the window that it didn't affect us at all. But trash TV was turned off. It ended up being a great rest of the lesson.  By the closing prayer the sun was out and it was peaceful.

It helped my testimony of how important it is to make sure the spirit is there as we teach. That's what teaches people. That's what converts them. I know the things I tell people every day on the street or in a lesson is true because of that same spirit.

Love yall, keep in touch.

Snow Still!

Yes it snowed this week. In May. All I hear about from people here is how they love the "4 seasons".  Well so far I've only gotten 1 season,  and I've been here 8 months.  Hopefully it'll warm up soon though.

This week has been fun. Saturday we had a baptism, Wyatt.

Wyatt (on left) and Isaiah at Isaiah's baptism

He was only an 8 year old, so according to the mission it doesn't count as a convert baptism, but I'm still counting it. We had a good time teaching him. He's best friends with Isaiah, who we baptized a lil while ago.

On Monday we completely changed out the gardens of the Temple. It was crazy to see how many flowers were delivered. But it's the house of the Lord, and only the best for Him right? Other than that, we've just been working hard, teaching people, and loving every moment. That's all for this week. Take care

Another 2 Baptisms

We had 2 baptisms this Saturday.  Both were sweet. One, with Anthony, was pretty memorable. Anthony is impossible to explain. And I don't know anyone to compare him to. He's just a big awesome guy. A few days before the baptism, we told him he needed to pick someone to baptize him. So he took the 2 missionaries, Bishop Gray, and Brother Roesler, the Ward Mission Leader and told us all to pick a number. Most people have whoever has helped them the most baptize them,  or a good friend. But we did it by picking numbers. It ended up Brother Roesler baptized him and I helped... he's 300 pounds.

Shortly before the baptism the Bishop showed up with the biggest jumpsuit he could find,  because we believe in baptizing someone in all white. Well, he ripped the biggest jumpsuit we had. So, Bishop had to scramble around and find some tan pants and a big white shirt. It was epic. But he was baptized. And lifting him out of the water felt like nothing... we definitely  had some extra help besides Bro Roesler and I.

When I first got to the area we knocked on a door that someone had referred us to. A guy opened the door and invited us in. He'd been puffin the magic dragon, so the visit was completely ineffective and we decided not to waste any more time. As we walked into a lesson this week, the TV was on and the news was on the TV. It was showing the house we knocked on and said this guy, who we tried to teach, had been arrested for armed robbery. Kinda makes me wish we went by again.

Some of y'all might remember Ed.

Ed

He was in my last area. About the time I got transferred he moved to Brigham City. I was afraid he'd get lost in the mix, and the missionaries wouldn't be able to help him. But I just got a call from another missionary in the mission who told me they started teaching him and he wanted him to let me know. It's sweet!

Lately our area has been pretty slow. We haven't gotten anyone new to teach. So 2 weeks ago I fasted for the area. It was amazing the power that fasting has. This last week we've picked up 6 new investigators, 4 of them have have dates to prepare to be baptized, and we're teaching one tonight who will most likely set a date. It's been amazing. There have been so many different means of finding them, but the result has been the same. Amazing lessons with everyone feeling the spirit.

One of the lessons were with 2 little girls who barely even heard of Christ before. As we taught they felt the spirit for the first time in their lives and kept asking us what the feeling was. It was amazing to see them experience the love of Jesus for the first time. They are way excited to be baptized and have good support from their father.

That's all I have time for today. This week has been a great one and I can't wait to go back out and keep doing what I love doing.  Stay in touch, stay good. Love yall
